The Home Buyers Fair
The 11th annual home buyers fair was a tremendous success thanks to our sponsors, supporters, exhibitors and most importantly the more than 200 serious home buyers that made their way to the community center to learn about the home buying process. We also continue to average a minimum of 10 hits per day on this website for people looking for resources.
First-Time Homebuyer Credit
New Legislation New legislation, the Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009, which was signed into law on Nov. 6, 2009, extends and expands the first-time homebuyer credit allowed by previous Acts. The new law:
- Extends deadlines for purchasing and closing on a home.
- Authorizes the credit for long-time homeowners buying a replacement principal residence.
- Raises the income limitations for homeowners claiming the credit.
Local Programs
The American Dream- The Purpose of this program is to assist eligible low and moderate income Families is becoming "First-Time Homebuyers" by providing them with closing costs and down-payment assistance.
Applicant must apply for a home loan from a Bank or Mortgage Company Prior to Qualifying for the closing and down payment assistance.
Are You Eligible?
- Applicant must meet HUD's Income Guidelines.
- Applicant must be a "First-Time Homebuyer"
- An individual and his or her spouse have not owned a home within the last 3 years.
- Applicant must purchase residential property within the city limits of the City of Edinburg, Mission or Pharr.
- All families must be a U.S. Citizen or be a permanent resident alien.
- Applicant must qualify for a home loan from a lending institution prior to qualifying for the closing cost and down payment assistance program.
